Say Hi to my Dad aka Dr John. For anyone who knows how silly & wacky I and my sense of humor can be, you can thank him 😜He also taught me what it means to be chill and to keep a light-heart in a world that can often get so serious and heavy. That, and pretty much how to just not give a f*ck about people making fun of you or talking smack, just be who you are cos life's too short to be anything but. About 5 years ago my pops suffered a massive stroke and lost his ability to speak along with severe paralysis/weakness on his Rt side. Dude refused to call it quits tho. He still gets up every day and gives it his all. Some days are better, some days are worse. I miss the hella cooky and hilarious jingles he'd come up with on his keyboard and the backyard bbqs he absolutely crushed with his killah grill skills! But I'm so thankful we got to have those moments. A few weeks before my dad's stroke, we got up on a phone call. He wasn't the best at keeping in touch, but he was always there when I asked for or approached him. I'd been holding it in for awhile, feeling like I couldn't tell him, but finally, after years, I mustered the courage to tell him how much he meant to me and that I loved him. To my surprise, he opened up and reciprocated. Little did I know that would be the last time he and I would be able to speak like that. It hurt to hear about the stroke a few wks later, but somehow I felt at peace too because my dad and I got to have that moment, and for us to have been able to share & voice how we really felt about each other, I thank God for that blessing. Make sure you tell the people you love, care for, need to clear air with, or whatever else is on your heart just that. Cos you never know what can happen one minute to the next. Just want to shout-out my pops again for being there, always sticking around (my parents divorced when I was like 10) and for all the unforgettable memories, laughs, good times and lessons you gave me! LOVE YOU DAD! Happy Father's day today and every day. Aloha to a champion 🤗
